Participation at the Circularity for Food Packaging Conference

On November 23, 2023, the FlexFunction2Sustain project and ESNA were presented at the Conference on Circularity for Food Packaging. This noteworthy event, part of the EU-funded CIRCULAR FoodPack project in Freising, Germany, was organized by Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR) GmbH and the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV.

The conference served as a platform for the discussion of various scientific opinions, presentation of innovative technologies, and exploration of industrial perspectives. The discussions provided valuable insights but also laid the groundwork for potential future collaborations throughout the entire value chain.

Key takeaways from the event highlighted the essential elements needed for advancing circular plastics and fostering a competitive European presence in this sector. These include the importance of ambitious political regulations, fostering complementarity among existing scientific and innovative approaches, facilitating the industry’s seamless adoption of innovative technologies through easier adaptation and increased investments, and promoting robust collaboration across the entire value chain, both at the European and international levels.

The FlexFunction2Sustain project and ESNA made their mark during the poster session, where partners in flexible packaging from the consortium introduced the concept of the Open Innovation Test Bed. By sharing insights into their approach toward a Circular Economy of Plastic, they contributed to the ongoing dialogue on sustainable practices in the industry.
