Successful Completion of SustainPack Pilot Case

The SustainPack Pilot Case, selected through the FlexFunction2Sustain Open Call, has achieved successful completion. In the project, HPX Polymers collaborated with the FlexFunction2Sustain consortium to tackle the challenge of surface functionalization for circular flexible food packaging.

The objectives of the Pilot Case were the improvement of barrier properties of several bio-packaging solutions at lower prices and/or the development and optimization of new process options with newly developed materials based on PVOH. This new PVOH-based packaging solution was implemented via transfer coating of barrier layers onto paper, co-extrusion, co-extrusion lamination, co-extrusion coating, and mono-extrusion for thermoforming.

In order to execute the Pilot Case, HPX Polymers was using the combined services and collective expertise of partners within the FlexFunction2Sustain consortium, including the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV, Fraunhofer Institute for Organic Electronics, Electron Beam and Plasma Technology FEP, IPC – Centre Technique Industriel de la Plasturgie et des Composites, COATEMA, and INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory.
